Repair / Maintenance

The cost of heating water consumes almost 20 percent of your household budget, second only to what you spend on heating and cooling your home. Despite this expense, water heaters are typically ignored until they break, leaving you with no hot water and, possibly, a flooded basement.

Hot water is an essential part of our everyday lives. From showering to dishwashing, our water heaters work hard to provide us with the hot water we need to keep clean and comfortable. But when something goes wrong with your water heater, you'll need a professional plumber to provide you with the services you need to keep your system running as it should.

During routine water heater maintenance, the technician will inspect for potential safety issues, inspect the coils, rods and other pieces along with a complete water heater flush. The flush helps to get sediment out of your heater which can cause serious damage and clogs to your system.

If it's time for maintenance or in the event that you do need a repair, don't hesitate to contact Lake Contracting.

So how are you supposed to know when your water heater needs repaired?

Unfortunately, hot water heater problems at some point or another are inevitable, especially as the unit gets older. Because your unit plays such an important role in your everyday life, scheduling timely water heater repairs is essential. After all, broken water heaters may explode, causing serious injury to you or your family. Some of the most common issues that will require repairs include:
You see leaks
Of course, you’ll know that you need water heater maintenance when you see a leak or puddle surrounding your heater. However, not all the signs of a leak are quite so obvious. In general, you should make it a habit to check for leaks around your hot water heater at least once a month. Look for drips, a damp carpet or even a musty smell surrounding the heater.
You hear clicking
Your water heater will make a few random sounds that aren’t for concern. However, if you start to hear constant clanging, clicking or even something that sounds like popping, it’s likely a sign of a more serious issue. Typically, it means that your water heater is actually overheating because it’s overcompensating for clogs in the system. Not only will this run up your hot water bill, but it could also lead to an increased risk for burns if you come in contact with the heater.
You have inadequate hot water
If your unit is not undersized but suddenly produces less hot water than it used to, one or both of its heating elements may have failed. A constant supply of lukewarm water during a shower is indicative of a defective upper heating element. Hot water that runs out quickly during a shower is indicative of a defective lower heating element.
Your water is rust colored or has a bad odor
If your water comes out of the faucet with a brown, yellow, or red tint to it, there could be corrosion occurring inside your water heater tank or in the pipes in your home. If your water comes out smelling like rotten eggs, there could be bacteria in the hot water heater tank. A corroded tank must be replaced as soon as possible.
The water pressure is low
No one likes dealing with low water pressure, but it’s also a sign that you’re in need of some water heater maintenance. This is likely a sign that a buildup of minerals or other types of sediment. The pressure may also be low because of a kink in a pipe or simply because of faulty installation.
